Is Heron Island Australia's Ultimate Holiday Destination?

By Alex Blaken

The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia, has been declared one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. For holiday makers there are a wide range of alternatives available for those wishing to take a look at the reef. Having said that, there are not very many places that are genuinely a part of the reef. Heron Island is one holiday getaway destination that is an important part of the reef. It is a natural coral cay that owes its presence to the reef and, because of that, is part of the Great Barrier Reef National Park.

For holidaymakers, what helps to make Heron Island wonderful is that just about everything is at your door. Guests will not need to commit their day-to-day money (as well as their available free time) on charter vessels to see the Barrier Reef, you can physically wake up each morning and be in the sea in moments. Not simply in the sea, but swimming over the Great Barrier Reef. Do not forget your snorkel, face mask and flippers - you may need them if you really want to observe all that the reef has to offer you. Visitors can enjoy hours swimming over the reef so flippers will be indispensable to avoid tired legs. What works to make Heron Island even more unique is that the island is regarded as closed to day tourists so you will never be crowded out.

Certainly, there is much more to Heron Island than just the coral reef - though much of it does depend on the Barrier Reef. Green turtles travel to the shores around the isle to lay their eggs. Currently there are thousands of birds from a wide range of species who call the remote island home - just simply laying back on the seashore watching them arrive and depart is fascinating in itself. That is definitely Heron Island - but what's interesting about the holiday resort?

Your room is not that different to numerous other major resorts. Hotel rooms have the conventional ceiling fans, refrigerator, tea/coffee making conveniences and clock radio. That which is a bit different is the absence of a television system, the inclusion of large beach towels, and the outdoor terrace in which a person can unwind and see over the ocean. Certain rooms include air-conditioning that sometimes can be useful when it's sweltering - on the other hand open your windows and let the sea breeze in - there is nothing like it.

When it comes to meals, could I suggest you purchase the meals deal. The cuisine is positively fantastic and although breakfast is provided in your accommodation fees, you will save a lot of money by deciding to buy the meals package. This provides lunch and dinner for every single day you're on the island. It also frees a tourist from anxiety regarding additional charges - a person can pick from the menu irrespective of price - and what a selection! If you spend plenty of time swimming around the Great Barrier Reef, you will probably require plenty of energy to keep you going.

Heron Island provides one more claim to fame. It is one of the few holiday areas within Australia that is totally environmentally friendly. Heron Island makes its own electrical energy along with safe and clean standard tap water. At the same time, it takes care of all of its own waste products. This is one of the reasons why it has won numerous eco friendly travel related awards. As a holiday spot, it is second to none and worthwhile adding to your have to go to list.
