Holiday In Tasmania Australia

By Anton Maverick

Head to the central highlands of Tasmania, 70 3 kilometres north west of Hobart. With AllSeasonsCampervan Hire Melbourne it'll only take an especially short while to drive there. Bothwell is an old city, settled in the 1820's by hardy Scots who settled and farmed in the area. There's even a river Clyde there and yes, Aberdeen Angus once grazed there as well.

Besides the river Clyde, Bothwell is also home to the oldest golf course in the Southern Hemisphere, at Ratho and that was established in the 1830's. It is a bit bizarre for a golfing course because the putting greens are square and instead of mowers, the fairways are grazed by sheep. The Australasian Golfing Museum is also there for you to visit.

Bothwell itself is a consequential town with it's heritage on full display, particularly around the Queens Park area where there are at least fifty stone cottages and houses together with wonderful wide streets, bringing out the colonial feel of the area. Thorpe's Watermill and the St Michael and All Angels Church are also worth a visit.

Any Scottish community worth the money has a whiskey distillery and Bothwell is no different. The Nant Distillery is essentially one of Australia's best and you may want to try some of the single malts available. As per things Scottish, is the trout fishing which is available too. It's the sort of place you might want to spend the night, especially if you liked your trip to the distillery.

If this is the case, The Priory Country Lodge is a superb place to stay in true country comfort. Bothwell is a lovely small place to both visit and stay and if you enjoy the agricultural atmosphere, not to mention the distillery and a golf course with resident sheep, then you may enjoy the unique qualities which make Bothwell special.
