By Debora Marques

Apart from the Carnival, the New Year's Bash can be another major portion of the festivals in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Most famous amongst them will be the party on Copacabana beach which attracts scores of visitors annually. An important part of this event is the eye catching fireworks display. The exhibit which goes on for about thirty minutes is a definite joy to see.

Hotels, rio apartments and the whole city are lit up with adornments and a variety of exhibits. Performances and other entertainment activities are organized to celebrate the event. Folks throng the streets and enjoy the fireworks. Popping a bottle of perfectly chilled Champagne as the clock strikes midnight is recognized to be a provider of luck.

The world famous Rio de Janeiro Carnival carries a reputation of more than two hundred years old. Grounded in both pagan and religious festivals, the carnival is celebrated over the 4 days previous to the starting of Lent. The Rio Carnival has always been the primary attraction between holidaymakers. Despite all the carnivals that occur in Brazil, it's Rio de Janeiro that's referred to as the Carnival capital of the world.

The celebration begins on a Saturday, 40 days before Easter concludes on a Fat Tuesday, after which Easter starts on Wednesday. The celebration is celebrated within the month of February, sometimes March, which is the hottest period in Rio.

The Rio Carnival, as you may know it right now, was born in an attempt to make the parties more civilized in the manner of European carnivals. Face masks and rich costumes were introduced by the higher classes who paraded them up and down the city avenues inside their open carriages. The carnival also resembles events with beverages, food and music that proceed throughout the day and into the beginning hours of the morning.

Individuals come out of their Hotels and rio de janeiro apartments onto the streets and dance and sing, and all this ultimately finishes in what is recognized as the Samba Parade. People engaged in the Samba parade are dressed in dazzling costumes and Samba dancers perform the world famous Latin dance varieties.
