Latest Pilot Jobs for Airlines

By Steve Brennan

There's been some unpleasant news recently in the US which may potentially affect the supply of pilot jobs, for example the announcement of insolvency by American Airlines. One however has to take a look at this from many angles insofar regarding the reason for this. If you remember back in July, American Airlines placed what was then the largest order for aircraft in the history of aviation. Delegates from AA stated they would purchase at least 460 new aircraft worth up to $40 billion dollars.

Many are convinced the company is using the protection of insolvency as a means of restructuring that has been done by most of the surviving major US carriers already. So considering the aircraft orders and upcoming pilot retirements I suspect it is fair to say that pilot positions won't be negatively influenced by the bankruptcy.

If you are prepared to travel internationally for the latest pilot jobs then consider either the Asia Pacific region or the Middle East. Currently job vacancies in these area's are substantial. Airlines and pilot recruiting contract companies acting on behalf of some airlines in these area's are aggressively advertising in order to induct pilots. Pilot job vacancies for about all of the latest aircraft types can be found at online pilot job sites.

Even at this time many in the industry have stated there is a pilot deficiency that has an effect on the growth of many airlines. China being a classic example of this, with it's incredibly high growth and requirement for air travel. Recently, the CEO of Spring Airlines in China stated that "The Pilot shortage is the largest restriction to our development". It is now hard for airlines to open new routes or even add additional flights to existing ones.

While living abroad as a contract pilot won't be everyone's cup of tea it's an option worth considering. Airlines are steadily increasing pilot wages and conditions in order to attract pilots to their airline.
