Golf holidays in Cyprus

By Larry Bennett

Cyprus is a beautiful island country with a lovely warm year round climate. The island has amazing scenery and stunning golden beaches and these help to make it the ideal holiday destination. Although Cyprus is well-known for being a picturesque, relaxed island, it also offers a wide variety of activities for tourists who visit. One such activity is golf, and Cyprus has some of the most challenging and beautiful golf courses in Europe.

One of the most popular courses on the island is the Aphrodite hills course near Pathos. Aphrodite hills golf course overlooks the Mediterranean and is an award winning course. This course is known for being quite challenging with a number of bunkers littered around it. Aphrodite hills is a par 70 and starts at 49 euros for 18 holes. For those not ready to take on the full course, there is a three hole training course and also a 350 metre driving range to practice on.

There is also the prestigious Secret Valley golf club which is situated in the famous Petra tou Romiou and is arguably the best kept course on the island. Secret Valley is a very challenging par 70 and the back nine of the course are particularly tricky and well-known by local golfers and golf tourists of the island. A round of golf at the Secret Valley starts at 48 euros but is well worth it to play on such a prestigious and challenging course.

For something a little cheaper than Aphrodite hills and Secret Valley, there is the Tsada golf course located around 20 miles from Pathos. Tsada is a par 72 and costs only 42 euros for an 18 hole round. Tsada is also the first grass course to have been created on the island back in 1994. As well as the full course, it also has a fantastic driving range and putting green and also a swimming pool for golfers to relax in after a round in the hot Cyprus sun.

Then there is the Elea course which has been designed so that the original form of the area has been maintained. Elea now has the most stunning greens and fairways but it also has rocky and desert rough areas designed to catch golfers out. PGA professional described the course at Elea as a thinking course.
