UK Flights For A Choice Of Holidays

By Tom Martens

The United Kingdom has many airports and connections all over the world. It also offers flights within the country. You can find UK flights that can get you from London to Edinburgh very cheaply and quickly.

One of the top British destinations is Edinburgh. The city has a lot of history and modern attractions as well. It is well worth visiting.

Edinburgh Castle dominates the city from a hilltop, which is actually an extinct volcano. This is one of two extinct volcanoes in the city, and it was created around 340 million years ago. The first reference to a fortress there dates from around 1,500 years ago.

Building work on the actual castle was begun in 1130 by King David I. The chapel that he built in honour of his mother, Queen Margaret is still standing today. In 1356, David II built the tower that is named after him. The huge cannon that sits on the courtyard was a gift to King James I.

Another place with historical royal connections is Holyrood Palace. This was were Mary Queen of Scots was crowned. The Palace is the current monarch's official residence in Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Vaults were created in the eighteenth century, to be used as storage cellars. These became infamous because of the Burke and Hare murders, and are reputedly haunted. Poor people lived in these chambers during the nineteenth century. You could take a ghost walk along these vaults, if you dare.

But if you prefer something much more cheerful, you can see how whisky is made. You can view the different stages of the brewing process. At the end of your tour, you will be given a chance to sample a tipple.

During the summer, the city hosts its annual comedy festival. This is a very popular event, so it is wise to book tickets well in advance. You can see well known acts as well as new talents.

Young and old will enjoy a trip to Edinburgh Zoo. This has recently been in the news, as two giant pandas have been added over the past few days. The penguin parade is great fun for the kids.

There are many more inland destinations that you can enjoy. UK flights can open up the whole world to you. You don't have to choose an exotic foreign destination to enjoy a fun break.
